In the recent past, the residential construction industry has experienced a downturn in sales which has adversely affected many homebuilders across the nation. Not long ago, these same homebuilders were able to realize an appreciable profit margin in spite of operational inefficiencies. Now, operational inefficiencies cut into slim profit margins and make it difficult, if not impossible, for the average homebuilder to survive in the residential construction industry.
Lean and LEED principles and methodologies are the remedy to the economic pain felt by many homebuilders. Combined, Lean and LEED give the average homebuilder the competitive advantage that is crucial for success in today’s marketplace. LEED is what the average homebuilder can do to maintain pace with current industry trends. Lean is how the average homebuilder can implement LEED into everyday operations and, simultaneously, improve profit margins and revenues. The aim of this project is to provide a carefully constructed training curriculum that involves both hands-on and web-based sharing of knowledge to transform the residential construction industry into a Lean and LEED organization that creates value for the end customer and society as a whole.
