Develop a strategic municipal policy to implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM)plans in City owned buildings excluding large landscape areas. IPM is a proactive approach which coordinates use ofpest and environmental information and pest control methods to prevent unacceptable levels of pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.
IPM is a safer and usually less costly option for effective pest management. IPM employs common sense strategies to establish physical barriers to pest by reducing sources of food, water, and shelter. It minimizes the use ofpesticides and reduces chemical exposure to the tenants. Pest do not have to be completely eliminated but with the use of action levels that determine when pesticide application is necessary, pests are kept in control at the most opportune timeframe.
